Ask about DNS Server

Hello Ace. I’m not very knowledgeable about DNS issues. Now my boss asked me if DNS server is only useful when deploying Web services and mailservers. Internally it is of no use.
The company’s system is divided into 3 DNS servers, 192.168.1.21 – 22- 23. But the server address used for mail exchanger is 192.168.1.8. When I read the document, it says that the DNS server resolves the domain name (eg fts.co) into the IP address of the server (ie one of the 3 servers above).
But in my company’s case, why does it work for 192.168.1.8 to install that exchanger?
And for a server system without Web services or mail servers, what effect does the DNS server have within the domain?
Because when upgrading the domain controller, the system requires creating a DNS. So what effect does DNS server have within the server?
