This article will guide you through basic configuration of Guest and Internal Wireless Networks on Meraki wireless devices.
1.Name and enable ‘Guest’ and ‘Internal’ SSIDs :
– In Dashboard, scroll to Wireless > Configure > SSIDs
– Section Name of each SSID, select rename.
– Enable and rename the SSID as desired.
– Select Save Changes to save the configuration.
2.Configure ‘Guest’ SSID:
– Move to Wireless > Configure > Access control.
– Select guest network from the SSID menu.
– In Association requirementsselect Open (no encryption).
– In Splash pageselect None (direct access).
– Scroll down to section Addressing and traffic. Select “NAT mode: Use Meraki DHCP”in NAT mode, the client receives the IP address it belongs to 10.0.0.0/8 networks. Clients cannot communicate with each other.
– Select Save Changes to save the configuration.
– Move to Configure > Firewall & traffic shaping.
– Definitely selected Guest network in SSID menu.
– In Layer 3 firewall rulesselect Deny from the menu.
– Scroll down to section Traffic shaping rulesselect Per-client and/or Per-SSID bandwidth limit as desired
– Select Save Changes to save.
3.Configure ‘Internal’ SSID:
– Move to Wireless > Configure > Access control.
– Select Internal network from the SSID menu.
– In Association requirementsselect Pre-shared key with WPA2 and enter the key according to your wishes.
– In Splash pageselect None (direct access).
– Scroll down to section Addressing and trafficselect “Bridge mode: Make clients part of the LAN”. In Bridge mode, Meraki devices operate transparently (no NAT or DHCP), clients receive DHCP from LAN or use static IP.
– Select Save Changes to save.
– Move to Configure > Firewall & traffic shaping.
– Make sure to select Internal network in the SSID menu.
– In Layer 3 firewall rulesselect Allow from the menu.
– Select Save Changes to save.
– Once completed, the AP will issue 2 SSIDs, one for Guests who only access the internet and one for Internal users.
