Device SonicWall firewall includes a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server to distribute IP addresses, subnet masks, gateway addresses, and DNS server addresses to clients on your network. You can use the DHCP server of the SonicWall security appliance or use existing DHCP servers on your network. If your network uses its own DHCP server, make sure to uncheck Enable DHCP Server.
1.Enable DHCP Server:
– Select Network tab at the top of the page.
– Move to SYSTEM | DHCP SERVER | DHCP Server Settings and choose IPv4 tab.
– Enable DHCPv4 Server. Make sure there are no other DHCP servers on the LAN when you enable SonicWall’s DHCP server.
– Option Enable Conflict Detectionis already enabled by default.
– Enable feature DHCP Server Persistence to provide the client with a predictable IP address that does not conflict with other users on the network, even after the client restarts.
2. Dynamic DHCP address assignment:
– Move to DHCP Server Lease Scopes and choose Add Dynamic to add new.
– Turn on Enable this DHCP Scopeis already enabled by default.
– Select the interface to which this DHCP scope will apply.
– Enter the starting IP address of the desired IP address range in the field Range Start. Enter the ending IP address in the field Range End. Enter the IP grace period in the field Lease Timethe default is 1440 minutes (24 hours). Time can be configured from 1 to 9999 minutes.
– Import Default Gateway and Subnet mask will be assigned to the client.
– Select DNS/WINS tab.
– Enter the domain name registered for your network at school Domain Nameif you do not have a Domain Name, leave this field blank.
– Select Inherit DNS settings dynamically from the SonicWall’s DNS settings to use the DNS servers you set up in section Network | DNS. Or choose Specify Manually and enter the DNS server you want to use at school DNS Server 1, DNS Server 2, and DNS Server 3. Then choose OK.
– Continue this process until you have added or edited the dynamic DHCP address ranges you desire.
3. Assign a static DHCP address:
– In DHCP Server Lease Scopesselect Add Static.
– Turn on Enable this DHCP Scopeis already enabled by default.
– Name at school Entry Name.
– Select the interface to which this DHCP scope will apply.
– Enter the IP address you want to assign to the device in the field Static IP Address.
– Enter the device’s MAC address at Ethernet Address
– Enter the IP renewal period in the field Lease Timethe default is 1440 minutes (24 hours). Time can be configured from 1 to 9999 minutes.
– Import Default Gateway and Subnet mask will be assigned to the client.
– Select DNS/WINS tab.
– Enter the domain name registered for your network at school Domain Nameif you do not have a Domain Name, leave this field blank.
