Configure URL Filtering on Cisco Firewall Threat Defense

This article shows you how to configure the URL Filtering feature on Cisco Firewall Threat Defense devices, through Device Manager.

– First choose Device -> View Configuration at Smart License, select Enable URL License.

– Go Policies on the main menu, at Access Controlselect + at new rule.


Order : the position of the rule, in this example will be 1 to be above the allow rule, otherwise it will have no effect.
Title : name the rule
Action : select Block.
At Source : select inside_zone
At Destination : select outside_zone

– Switch tabs URLsselect + at Categories, and select the Categories you want to block.

– You can set Reputation for the category you want, the default is Any for category, uncheck Any and adjust reputation (eg: Untrusted -> Questionable for Social Networking), so that only urls that belong to the Social Networking category and are in the Untrusted -> Questionable range will be blocked.

– At the Logging tab, select At the Beginning and End of Connection to enable logging on this rule. Select OK to save the rule.

– Finally choose Deploy -> Deploy Now to apply configuration.
