The article below will show you how to install OS for Dell PowerEdge Server using the tool Life Cycle Controller (abbreviated as LCC). LCC is a utility integrated by Dell for PowerEdge server lines of generation 11G and later. Hopefully this article will help those who are unfamiliar with Dell’s PowerEdge server to install the OS conveniently and quickly.
* Prepare:
– Need to update iDRAC, Firmware, BIOS of the server to the latest version. You can skip this part if your company uses Dell’s customize/freeze software service, you need to follow your company’s process.
– Prepare the Windows Server OS source you need to install.
* Steps:
– Install and configure Raid
– Install Windows Server
* Proceed with installation:
Part 1: Install and configure Raid
This article will install RAID for the DELL R730 product with the H730 RAID card. I use RAID 10 to test. RAID types, with the Dell R730 line and later new lines, we do not need to use the Open Manage Systems Management Tools and Documentation disk like before, but has been integrated with the very convenient F10 key.
To configure RAID we have 2 ways, you can use the key combination ctrl + R to enter the card’s RAID configuration interface, or use the F10 key to enter the lifecycle controller interface to configure. Next, I would like to guide you to configure RAID for this product line with the two ways mentioned above.
Method 1: Use the card’s RAID configuration interface:
Open the device and press ctrl + R when it appears as shown below:
After pressing ctrl + R you will see the interface as shown:
Select as shown and press ENTER and you will see the interface as shown:
In the RAID level section: select the RAID level you want to create 0, 1, 5, 6, 10… Here I configured RAID 10 so choose RAID 10.
In the Physical Disks HDD section, configure RAID.
After making your selection, just move to the OK button -> press ENTER -> continue to select OK -> press ENTER as shown:
At the end of the RAID creation process, you will see the results as shown:
Press Ctrl + Atl + Delete to reboot the computer. Finish the RAID configuration process.
Method 2: Use the F10 key to enter the lifecycle controller interface to configure:
Start the computer, press F10 as shown below:
Wait a moment when the Lifecycle Controller interface appears as shown below. Select Configure RAID and Deploy an Operating System and you will see a dialog box as shown:
Click Next to display the dialog box:
Click Next to display the dialog box:
Select RAID type, here I configured RAID 10 so choose RAID 10. click Next. dialog box appears:
In the Select Physical Pool section, select HDD as shown, click Next.
Set a name in the Virtual Disk Name section then click Next.
Click Finish.
Click Yes.
Click OK, so the RAID configuration is complete.
Part 2: install OS for Dell Server
In LCC, click on the OS Deployment line on the left column of the screen. Then select the Deploy OS line as below.
Wait for the OS listing process to complete.
Select Deployment path. In this step there will be 2 options for you:
You can configure RAID for the server in this step, but if the server has already been configured with RAID, you can choose Go Directly to OS Deployment to go to the next step.
Select the type of OS to install for the Server
Select Installation mode.
In this section, you choose Boot Mode as UEFI or BIOS (legacy BIOS)
Select source to install OS
Click Next
At this point, the preparation on the Server side is complete, click Finish to start the OS installation process.
You proceed to install Windows Server 2012 on the familiar installation interface.
