Reset FortiGate Firewall to default configuration (reset to factory default).
There are 2 ways: Hard Reset and Soft Reset
I. Hard reset:
first.
With the FortiGate The small line has a reset button
– Turn off the power to the device.
– Start the device.
– When fortinet finishes booting, press the reset button (within 30 seconds)
Wait until the display lights on the device turn off and only the Power light remains, then release your hand.
We have 30 seconds to perform the reset from now on FortiGate After booting, after 30 seconds the reset button will be disabled and we cannot press the reset button.
Note: Time FortiGate Boot completion is counted from the time the device has finished booting, can access the device, and the device can forward data.
II. Soft reset:
first.
With devices FortiGate If the line is higher, we don’t have a hard reset button, so we do it using a “soft” reset. Fortigate devices with hard reset buttons can also be done this way. We do it as follows:
First we enter command line mode Fortigateuse 1 of the following 3 ways to enter command line mode:
Method 1: Use FortiExplorer software to enter configuration. Software download link:
– Install the software on the device, then connect to the device via the management port (connection cable comes with the device). The software will automatically recognize the device
– On the left, click on the Command-line Interface line, log in with user/pass (default is user:admin / blank password).
Method 2
: Configuration via web interface.
We enter command line mode through the web interface, we log in using the device’s internal port IP (or WAN1, WAN2). The default IP address is 192.168.1.99.
– We use RJ-45 cable, one end connects to the computer, the other end connects to Fortigate’s internal port.
– Set your computer’s IP to match your network layer Fortigate.
– Use a web browser to log in to the device, here the default IP address of Fortigate is 192.168.1.99
– Type in user / password (default user: admin / password: blank)
– Go to System >> Status >> CLI Console
Method 3
: Use a console cable (some devices do not support console ports). We do it as follows
– Connect the Console cable to the device Fortigate.
– Open the Hyperterminal program (or similar feature software such as: SecureCRT, Putty,..) on the computer. The parameters set are as follows:
+ Baud rate: 9600
+ Data Bits: 8
+ Stop Bits: 1
+ Parity: None
+ Flow Control: Off
2. Reset FortiGate About the manufacturer’s default configuration:
